Latest liner looks

The feline flick is a tried and tested component of any fashionista’s make-up bag of tricks, and it’s still proving popular for autumn. However, it’s time to ditch your black kohl pencil in favour of an electric blue hue. This bold beauty trend is ultra flattering and oversized cobalt winged flicks will really pop for anyone with brown eyes. MAC’s Chromagraphic Pencil in Hi-Def Cyan delivers a powerful punch - but take your time applying it, as you must keep the line as slick and ultra-straight as possible. Avoid the ‘80s throwback look by keeping the rest of your make-up simple; a nude lip works a treat.

Gold is also big news in the eyeliner world right now; just in time for the fast-approaching festive season. The idea is to gild your eyes – both top and bottom lash line - with particular emphasis on the inner corner of the lower lash. Maybelline’s Master Kajal Cream-stick liner in Oriental Gold has a rich, creamy formula packed with pigments that allows the user to create an impact with just a few easy strokes. Apply your chosen shade on the top lash line and then below the lower lash line, before finishing off with a subtle slick of brown mascara. For added drama, you can add a shimmering gold eyeshadow to the socket.

For anyone who wants to make a real statement, try experimenting with two contrasting shades of eyeliner. Start off by applying a light sweep of metallic silver eyeshadow all over the socket. Then add a thin navy blue stripe to the inside of the upper lash line, going halfway along before finishing off the top line with a thicker slick of bright turquoise or purple. Max Factor’s Liquid Effect Pencil in Violet Voltage creates the look of liquid eyeliner but is actually an easy-to-apply eye pencil.

If you can’t bear to part with your trusty black liner, then here’s one for you. Take your favourite kohl pencil right into the tear line on both the bottom and upper lid and also run it through your lashes. The line doesn’t need to be extended to a flick, but you can make it more intense by adding black eyeshadow at the edges.

For ultra-precision, you can’t beat a gel liner - but make sure you have a steady hand before applying. Our top tip is to keep your eyes open as much as possible because the skin around the area will sit differently depending on whether your peepers are open or closed.
