Choosing the Right Shade of Lipstick for Your Skin Tone

(Photo:prom dresses uk cheap)

We can’t all pull off a bright coral red (Taylor Swift - we’re looking at you) but maybe you can rock a berry lip better than Queen B herself. With endless shades of lipstick out there, picking the right one according to your skin tone can be a pretty daunting task.

Check out these tips and tricks to help you find a lipstick that works best with your complexion.

1. Identify your undertone

You can’t find the perfect shade for your complexion without knowing your skin’s undertones first.

If you have a yellow undertone to your skin then warmer shades of lipstick will suit you better and if you have a pink undertone then cool shades with purple tones will suit you best.

*TIP: If you’re not sure what undertones your skin has, then try on some gold and silver jewelry and see what looks better. Gold jewelry looks best with warm skin tones and silver looks best on cool skin tones.

2. Fair Skin

Picking the right shade for fair skin usually means sticking to lighter shades of nudes, pinks and light browns. Cool undertones should try a soft mocha brown or nude. This Bourjois Rouge edition Velvet lipstick in no.4 is a perfect option for those with a fair complexion and cool undertones and it’s long lasting with a 24hr hold so is a perfect one to keep in your handbag for any occasion! (Bonus: This is a non-drying matte finish lippy!)

If you have fair skin and warm undertones then you should try pale pinks or nude with a little peach. Of course this doesn’t mean you can’t rock a dark lip colour and, if you‘re really fair, bold reds will look amazing on you! Think Christina Hendricks and Jessica Chastain. In general mocha nudes, light pinks and peach shades are universally flattering on fair skin.

3. Medium Skin Tones

If you have medium or olive tone skin you can’t really go wrong when it comes to most shades of lipstick. Most nudes, reds and berry tones will look good on you. If you have cool undertones then pink and cranberry colours are your best bet and if you have warm undertones try out a copper or bronze shade to really flatter your complexion. If you have very tan skin, why not try a bold colour like this matte fuchsia pink shade for a statement pout! Thanks to the formula being saturated with pure pigments, each shade perfectly covers lips with bold, very intense colour. An ultra-fashionable result, straight from the catwalk!

4. Darker Skin Tones

When choosing a lip colour for darker complexions, deep reds will look amazing on you! Avoid anything too pale as deeper shades will look naturally more flattering. For darker skin with cooler undertones opt for ruby and wine-colored shades and for warmer undertones try deep plums and copper/bronze tones. This gorgeous Bourjois Rouge Edition lipstick in no.2 is the perfect dark rose shade for darker skin tones and we guarantee you will fall in love with its matte velvety finish!

Opting for versatile lipstick shades that can be worn darker or lighter is ideal. Bourjois’ Rouge Edition Velvet shades are perfect for this; you can apply them using your fingertips for a softer look or use the applicator and build up the coverage for an intense statement pout! With 12 different shades to choose from there’s a colour to suit every occasion so you can build up your collection for day and night.Read more at:cocktail prom dresses
