Valvo, Toi part of extended N.Y. Fashion Week

Extended Fashion Week begins Wednesday in New York

A pair of designers who have regularly visited Palm Beach in recent seasons will mark a milestone next week during the longer-than-seven-day New York Fashion Week spring collection showings.

The extended week of shows starts Wednesday and runs through Sept. 12, from morning until late in the evening.

Carmen Marc Valvo, who has shown his ready-to-wear and couture lines at Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus on many occasions, and Zang Toi, the designer who got his start at the Martha Phillips boutique years ago and has gone on to appearances at Neiman’s and Saks’ island branches, are both celebrating the 25th year of their individual labels.

Known for their evening wear, Valvo and Toi

are two of the hundreds of designers and labels presenting their visions for how to dress next spring.

Valvo and Toi are showing their collections on runways at the Lincoln Center venue of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, but those spaces aren’t the only place to catch a designer’s spring show.

Ralph Lauren, for instance, is presenting his women’s Polo collection at Cherry Hill in Central Park; Tommy Hilfiger will take over the Park Avenue Armory for his women’s collection show; and Thakoon Panichgul, celebrating a decade on the design scene with his spring line and a favorite of first lady Michelle Obama, will show at a venue close to the Javits Convention Center. Other designers will unveil their creations at locations throughout Manhattan, from the Upper East Side to the Battery.

Some newcomers to the shows will join Lauren, Hilfiger, Donna Karan, Calvin Klein, Carolina Herrera, Michael Kors, Oscar de la Renta, Diane Von Furstenberg, Vera Wang and other Seventh Avenue names this year.

Among them is young Zoe Jordan, a London-based designer who brings her collection to New York for the first time. Last year, Jordan won the British Fashion Council’s Contemporary Award. She describes her spring clothes as energetic and minimalist, influenced by northern European trends and tastes.
